"Shut up and Pray"
If you believe you will
receive whatever you ask for in prayer. Matthew 21:22
I don't have a whole lot of scriptures to
dump on you about prayer. Just this... "pray without ceasing."
I don't want to take my husband for granted. I want to embrace and enjoy
my time with him. I want to see delight in his face as I strive to please
him within our home, within my personal walk with Christ, and as a mother
to our children. I know he will value me more, when I show him I value us,
our home and our life.
One way I can demonstrate that I value him is to pray for him. I know that
he faces a lot of stress each day in his work environment. I know that he
strives to be an honest husband and father in an unstable, shaky world.
The prayer of a
righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:16
One of the biggest blessings you can give
your husband is to pray for his day.
You might ask, "What's the point, what difference does it make?" It
actually makes a lot of difference. Christians daily face a spiritual
battle, and the choice is yours whether or not to protect yourself and
your husband in prayer.
So many people underestimate the importance and power of prayer. Some
tend to view it as a short recitation at meals. Others see it as a last
resort. "There's nothing we can do now but pray," we often hear stated.
I am learning to spend less and eventually
no time churning up the pain and negative challenges I am facing but
instead to lift up my voice in praise to God. To exalt Him and thank Him
as He said I should do. It is a refreshing change to counter the devil's
bombardment, not with entrance to my mind but with a challenge of God's
word, which says I am an overcomer.
I can impact my husband's days simply by
praying for him! I can pray for his safety and protection; his role in his
work environment; his spiritual growth; and his leadership in our home. It
makes me happy to know that I can have a positive impact in his life via
my prayers.
Prayer is only 1 step (all-be-it a powerful one) in protecting and
encouraging my husband as he works hard to provide for us. It benefits
him, which turns right back around to benefit me and us as a couple. It is
so simple to do, yet so easy to forget!
When you pray for your husband, pray specifically. If the Lord brings a
specific issue to your mind during the day, stop and pray about it. Be
open to the Spirit's guidance.
You might be saying, "What about me? I work too." Hopefully your
husband will pray for you too. The Lord has put our husbands in our care,
and one of our primary responsibilities as wives is praying for his
success both as a husband and a father. Many wives have told me their
husbands can tell if they are praying for them by the quality of their
work days. Don't miss out on this opportunity to show your husband how
much you love him and want to support him.
